How does a Broadband Connection Work?
How does a broadband connection works depends on the type of connection you are using. The different types of broadband connection are Digital Subscriber line, Cable, Fiber Optic, Satellite, and WLAN.
- DSL: The Direct Subscriber Line is an internet connection which causes no interruption to your telephone line. The speed which you will enjoy depends upon the distance between your home or office and the switching point. Greater the distance, slower will be the speed.
- Cable: This broadband service is provided using Coaxial Cable, the same cable which is used for cable TV. Thus, this connection is generally provided by your local TV providers. The main issue with this kind of connection is that the speed which you will get depends upon the number of users in your area. If there are a lot of active users in the area, the speed will take a dip. This happens because they all sharing the same bandwidth.
- Fiber-Optic: Fiber-optic broadband connection is the latest advancement in internet connectivity today. It is undoubtedly the fastest way for data transmission. However, this technology has a very limited reach as it is still under development. Moreover, it takes a lot of time for the entire cable connection to be laid down and to fix even a smallest fault.
- Satellite: Satellite broadband connection is one of the slowest internet connections available in today’s world. However, it is still faster than dial-up. It is mostly use to provide connections in rural areas, where it is hard to lay down cable connections.
- Fixed Wireless: Fixed wireless internet is a top choice in rural areas where setting up the infrastructure for broadband services like DSL is prohibitively expensive. A Wireless receiver get installed at your house. It is then connected with nearest Wireless Base Station and thus connect you to the internet.
